The (otherwise) calm Saturday ended with a mid-night visit to the A&E department at the nearest hospital. YK has been coughing the last couple of days but had difficulties breathing last night. The ventolin inhaler which normally relieves the conditon didn't seem to work at all.
With a history of asthma, we were worried about the onset of an asthma attack, so I drove him to the hospital nearby. We were greeted by hospital staff donning mask, and were subjected to temperature checks. Needless to say, we ended up wearing mask like everyone else. The stated waiting time was 3 hours but we were lucky to be out of there in less than 2.
The doctor identified the problem as a badly inflammed throat and airways which caused the laboured breathing. Fearing an asthma attack, he prescribed a course of steroids and some medicine for the cough and inflammation.
It's a good thing YK has more or less outgrew this condition. He used to wheeze whenever he ate the wrong food or get an asthma attack when he had a bad cold. Many times he had to be hooked up to the neubiliser at the family clinic. I'm glad those delicate growing years are over.
He seems better now. The medication is working. What a relief.

Good to hear that he's ok :D
Happy Mother's Day to you, BT.
Its so worrying too know that YK is sick. Glad to know that he is better now.
Happy Mother's Day to you :)
Perhaps you could get the tincture of elecampane (latin name: inula helenium) or steep some indian borage tea for him. It will clear the phlegm from his bronchial tubes. I have tried both on myself. Do please ensure that there is no active pathogen when he takes elecampane. This herb dries up phlegm so well that it'll leave the body no mucus to defend against the pathogen, and when the drug wears off, the child is worse. It only works for irritation and excess phlegm due to irritation. No pathogens must be present when you use elecampane. I keep stressing because I had a bad experience with it when I had a bacterial infection.
How scary, but glad it's all under control.
Nick- Thanks. And yah, he's ok now.
Janice - Part and parcel of being a mum :-)
Jnaice - Happy Mother's Day to you too!
Petunia - Thanks for the info. It'll come in useful for sure.
JY - Indeed. Good thing we have a hospital quite nearby. When we were living with my parents, there was a 24-hour clinic nearby which saved us the visit to the hospital.
