Sunday night

It's almost the end of a long weekend, at least I had some time to read today even if it was only for 30 minutes. I seriously think working mums like us need a 3-day weekend. That's the only way we can get some rest.

Then again, I'm not sure about mums with little active kids. Sometimes they would rather be back at work where they can find some peace, provided they have a nice working environment to begin with. But kids (and dogs), they grow up so quickly, mums soon forget about those tiring days.

My new friend Fry has been waxing lyrical about how charming and sweet Rusty is. Well, he wasn't always like that. During his growing up years, he was a little terror who got into all kinds of trouble.

He used to dash around the farm with boundless energy. He chased after the postman and newspaper delivery guy. He terrorised the farm workers and bossed over Cookie and Russell. He wrestled with snakes and killed chickens, lizards and rats. He fought with other farm dogs and got warded into the pet hospital several times. When my sis-in-law presented him with a comfy straw bed one night, it was torn to bits the next morning.

It was only lately that he has mellowed. But he has always been a charmer, no wonder Fry is smitten. We met a female Jack Russell while we were out walking this morning. That bitch wouldn't stop winking at him the whole time. Soon she was all over him while Rusty merely sniffed at her politely.

The same thing happened again tonight. This time it was a rust coloured female Siberian Husky named Hazel. She was thoroughly enamoured with Rusty and wouldn't let him go. She's a really sweet girl but too big to be Rusty's playmate. Finally I had to save Rusty from her clutches.

Now he's sound asleep on my bed, safe at last, from his many admirers.

It always saddens me to see Siberian Huskies being kept in S'pore - Imagine how uncomfortable they feel under that heat and humidity, what are those people thinking? These dogs live in the freezing cold snow land!

My son too is enamoured with Rusty. For a few hours, my son lived his dream with "his" dog at the end of a leash. He loved it that Rusty was so active outside the house and when inside was calm, and allowed himself to be patted... and looked him in the eyes. My boy that it was the best part of it all.

I LOVE those Jack Russells, but know they can be a "terror"! But they are still nonetheless charming as your Rusty is. I am glad to see he has mellowed with age... good for him! Huskies in Singapore...that is a LITTLE hard on them I would think...

True indeed, Schee has gone through a teenage-like rebelliouness and now at age 6, he is well settled and is now content to be a mellow companion. Reminds me of the tear jerking movie, "Marley & Me". Also true, EH is now a toddler and I desperately miss her cuddly baby-ness that she is growing out of already. Life is full of contradictions!

CKL - They're so popular here! The first thing I asked the owner yesterday was "Isn't it too hot for your dog?" He said they keep the house cool and stick a fan in front of her all day.

MH - Then we will have alot of dead owners here :-)

Petunia - Yah, I could see your son really enjoyed taking care of Rusty that morning. You're right. The moment Rusty is outdoors, he is in his element.

JY - I'm glad he has mellowed too or else he will not be able to cope with apartment living.

Blur Ting said...

Nick - Indeed! He's tolerant with female dogs but growls at male ones.

EE - Yes, they outgrow their babyhood so quickly, we must treasure every moment.

Fry - Hah, you're the no.1 suspect!

Huskies are big dogs, they need space & cold! HDB?? Enough said...
