Home alone

It's highly unusual for me to be home alone on a Saturday. Normally, I would be driving this kid or the other to some far-flung places (fish farms) but somehow, I am spared today. Both are out with their friends.

I contemplated hiking (nah, too hot), running (even worse) or shopping (too crowded) but decided to stay home instead. Housework was already completed yesterday, so I sat before my computer all day.

Being alone can be bad for my health. When I hear my stomach rumble, I amble to the kitchen to find something convenient to eat. So far, I've eaten a bunch of buah duku langsat (below), a bowl of groundnuts, 3 pieces of chwee kueh, 2 pieces of Wang Wang seaweed rice crackers and a cup of fruit tea.

Now that my stomach is filled with all that junk, I feel like taking an afternoon nap.

Nick - I believe dukus are from Malaysia. You should get the freshest ones. When I was in langkawi last month, I couldn't resist buying some. Very fresh!

When was the last time I tasted buah duku langsat? 20 years ago? or more? Sometime I do miss all the food in S'pore!

duku langsat are in season and they are really sweet and good. Ate so much of it when I arrived that I had a stomach upset but it was worth it :-)

Once I start on one langsat, it's another and another and before I realised, I'm left wtih a pile of peels.

CKL - Aiya, I wish I could bring some to Perth for you in December!

JY - Yes! Some peace in the house. Hard to come by.

Amy - Yes, I see plenty this year. All so sweet. I think the traditional hard-skinned duku is no longer favoured.

iml - You're so right! They are really addictive. I can eat 1 kg all by myself!

I like duku langsat too but find that peeling the skin always stains my finger nails and also the insides of the nails. That's y I eat very judiciously!
