Globe-trotting granny

I woke up with a sore throat and feeling under the weather today. Man, it's a lousy feeling but I have no excuse to loll on my bed since it's a school day. I swallowed an aspirin and went about with my morning chores and managed to send the kids to school on time.

Just when I thought that I'm so done with writing about my travels, I came across a story that rekindled my interest again. It's probably the mother-of-all-journey I would like to make.

A group of 30 intrepid travellers set off yesterday from England on a 24,000km trip to Australia on a bus. Yes, a BUS! The one-way trip (costing about US$7,500) will last 12 weeks (84 days) and take in 20 countries including Hungary, The Czech Republic, Turkey, Pakistan, Iran, India, China, Nepal, Laos, Malaysia, Indonesia and Timor Leste. Following the ferry crossing from Timor Leste to Darwin, the tour travels across Australia, taking in Adelaide and Melbourne before arriving in Sydney.

The bus is a Belgian coach equipped for longer travel. It will stop every night for camping or hotel resting points. Among the inaugural passengers is a 66-year old grandmother who is planning to return in a container ship.

In my travels, I have met many globe-trotting grandparents out having a good time. My advise to folks out there "Never let age be a barrier!"

I want to be a granny globe-trotter when I grow up.

Ha ha, we can all go together! Let our kids take care of their own kids while we roam the world!

I would like to be a globe-trotting 46 year old, but I guess I will have to wait till I retire too.

Age is in the mind. You are only as old as you think you are!
