Three Amigas

Three Amigas got together today for a cookout session. These three - ST, Blur and Fry - had met each other under different circumstances.

Blur got to know ST through CH several years ago and became good friends. Then ST met Fry via Blur's blog and they became fast friends. Then all three decided to get together at ST's house.

Sounds confusing already? Doesn't matter, just enjoy the photos.

ST made a refreshing lemon grass drink using fresh lemon grass, pandan leaves and rock sugar. I think she has a winner here. It tastes so much better than the ones I have tried at some restaurants.

When I arrived at ST's house, Fry was busy snipping the legs and antennae from the fresh prawns, all 1 kg of them!

"Easier to eat mah!", she claimed.

Indeed, the shell came off easily during meal time. Here she is, frying them in butter, loads of butter.

The delicious aroma of buttered prawns filled the kitchen within minutes, it made us drool. She poured some freshly squeezed lemon juice before serving. I must thank Fry for introducing me to a new way of cooking prawns, it was finger licking good.

Today I discovered that ST is a big veggie eater like me. She whipped up a mean dish of mixed vegetables, a very colourful one too.

The mixed vegetable dish consists of sweet pea, cabbage, carrot, capsicum, sweet corn, broccoli, cauliflower and mushrooms. The minced garlic and dried shrimps transformed the vegetables into a most delicious stir-fry.

She also prepared a 'cooling' winter melon soup. While she thinks it is a little bland, I find that it complements the other savoury dishes very well.

The last dish is a braised soy sauce belly pork cum chicken dish which she started cooking in the slow cooker the night before. As a result, the meat had become so tender, they simply melt in the mouth.

A cookout session like this is a wonderful way to catch-up with friends and observe their different cooking styles. Who would think that an afternoon spent chatting and laughing while cooking and eating can be so relaxing and fun. You should try it sometime too.
