Hermit crabs

In Club Med, we spent our evenings scouring the beach for little hermit crabs. These little cuties start appearing on the sand beds every evening, as if on cue. Once you see one, you'll find alot more surfacing one by one. They come in all shapes and sizes (the shells I mean). Even the tinest ones have a little crab inside.

We made some videos but being a YouTube noob, I haven't figured out how to post it here. But you can click on this link to see the little ones scurrying around.

When I was around five years old, my mom and I lived in Ft.Pierce, FL. Our apartment was right across the street from the ocean. Not fancy AT ALL, but back then anyone could live by the beach. Anyway, at night the blue crabs would cross the road from the beach and come into our yard. They seemed enormous to me, and incredibly scary. To this day, I get a little ...antsy when I'm around crabs of any sort. :)

Oh, these crabs are just tiny! Like the size of a jelly bean. So, Mother Hen, you'd need alot to feed a hungry family :-)

Holly - yeah, I'm afraid of big crabs too. Even these small ones wriggling on my palm feel quite freaky. I would freak out too if the blue crabs come into our yard. It must have ben nice living by the ocean though...
