Stanley Village

My first trip to Stanley Village was years ago, when the kids were still quite young. I remember taking the long, winding journey along Repulse Bay and getting stuck in traffic for a long time.

This time, I decided to revisit the place again with YK, who is now a young man. I thought the place might interest him. We took the train to Exchange Square (Central MTR Station), followed by a 30-minute bus journey to Stanley, a seaside town at the southern tip of Hong Kong Island.

The traffic was good that morning and the journey offered stunning views of the coast and luxurious mansions along Repulse Bay.

When we arrived at Stanley Market, I was a little disappointed. I had remembered it as a sprawling marketplace humming with a carnival like atmosphere. Could my memory be failing? But the day before, I read an article saying how one could easily spend an entire day here.

The market, located near the beach, is popular with tourists. It's great if you're looking for silk garments, handicrafts or souvenirs. There are a couple of factory outlets selling winter wear and t-shirts.

The best thing about Stanley Village is the seaview and leisurely ambience. It's a perfect place to get away from the crowds in the city, have a glass of beer and watch the sunset.

I particularly like some of the buildings along the seafront, especially the blue one in the corner.

You can't possibly miss the row of restaurants and pubs along the seafront.

We ended up having lunch at one of the restaurants (forgot the name).

I had pork chop.

YK had fish and chips. We also shared seafood salad.

We left Stanley shortly after lunch. The entire market took us all of 10 minutes to explore! You certainly don't need to spend an entire day there.

Perhaps it comes alive in the evening? I remembered it being quite lively, but then I visited in the late evening and it was years ago.

Oh I get so hungry by looking at the food pictures. The shots are great. The seafood pictures are especially enticing. I so wish I get to eat more seafood :()

Btw, you look great in the outfit.

MH - Thanks for the compliment. It was rather quiet when we were there. You are probably right. It was a weekday, which explains the lack of atmosphere.

I dont remember if I went or not when I was in HK, but you really should write more travel blogs... you're really good and the pics of the food (previous post) were fabulous!

JY - We should meet up in HK one day and go on a culinary adventure together!

I decided to put the post on food in case anyone who's traveling to HK can have an idea of what to expect.

While I've seen many blogs telling us where to go for food, I find it quite a hassle running all over the shop just to look for a particular restaurant. I guess I'm just not that much of a foodie.
