Nightmare passengers

I was woken up by voices at 4am yesterday. My apartment is on the second storey, near the guard house, so I see and hear alot more than other residents.

Apparently, someone came home in a cab but didn't have any money to pay the driver who was getting quite mad. The security guard stepped in to mediate and ended up footing the $25 fare first. I hope he gets his money back from the passenger, a Caucasian man living upstairs.

This isn't the first time it has happened. Last time it was a young lady who couldn't pay. The cab driver created a commotion. He called his company to make a report and threatened to call the police until the guards stopped him. I heard everything.

The ranting didn't go away until her male friend came in a car to help pay up. The cab driver sped off unhappily having wasted precious time. The woman's friend cursed at the cab driver for kicking up a fuss over less than $20.

From newspaper reports, I've heard about passengers who don't pay. It is surprising to find this happening in our very own estate. In fact, in the very same block that I live in.

What disgusting people!! They are rich enough to live in a condo and they wanna fleece the cab driver?

When I was in Singapore, I heard about the expats pretend to be very drunk to avoid paying the cab fair from more than one sources. Never knew if it was true or not. The guard at your place is an angel though.

Gee...that's really crazy indeed...I agree with MH about the guard in your apartment complex.

I just find this strange. Living in condo is supposedly financially quite decently stable. But no money to pay cab fare? I just hope that we are not developing into a nation of people in debt.

Despite bad taxi drivers, as fm Amy Lam's experience, I think there are also very wicked passengers too.. and fm yr post n the response, there are some really no-class expats in S'pore who will stoop so low... I wonder how our HR people select them. If there are so many lowdown cheats in this coterie, are they good enough to run our companies, our schools and heaven 4bid, our stat boards n GLCs too :((
