I live in a household where we always have more than enough to eat because my dad takes such good care of the family. I think my mum is the luckiest woman in the world. Every week, my dad goes to the market and buys so much stuff back, our kitchen becomes a mini-mart. While he doesn't show affection in other ways (like giving hugs or vacations), he buys wholesome food for the family and treats for the kids. To me, that is the ultimate show of love.
Now I see that happening with my brothers. My elder brother packs a healthy lunchbox for his kids every morning before they leave for school. My younger brother visits the market at 6am to ensure that he buys the freshest fish which he will lovingly prepare for his daughter. He makes nutritious soup for his wife and brings his best wines home to share with us.
So, it is no surprise that I tend to equate food with love. Whenever I eat something nice in a restaurant, I think of my loved ones rightaway. I wish they could experience the same culinary pleasures as I did and often try to recreate the same dish at home.
When the kids were younger, I used to scour the supermarket shelves to find wholesome yet yummy snacks to fill their little tummies. When I pick them up from school, I often surprise them with little treats to make their ride home more enjoyable after a long day at school. Now that they're older, I make their favourite dishes whenever I can.
That's why we always look forward to our family dinner during the weekends when the house is abuzz with chatter and love. You'll find me cooking up a storm in the kitchen. My younger brother will be handing out wine glasses and my elder brother will bring home roast chicken and his famous avocado/cherry tomato salad.
If this is not love, then what is?
I cooked this for lunch yesterday using olive oil, garlic, chilli, Japanese white mushroom and shrimps. It was a hit with the kids!

I love family dinners too - sometimes we talk so much that the food gets cold! :)
As for your noodle dish, you just stir-fry it right? Simple and delicious.
Hey JY, Ya, I need to show my soul sisters some love too!
Heh Mooiness, that is angel's hair. It was overcooked and turned too soft hence it looks like noodle! After cooking the mushroom and shrimps in olive oil, I tossed the pasta in and let it sit for a while to absorb all that sauce.
I didn't serve immediately cos i wanted the pasta to dry out a little, so it would be less mushy.
The pasta was a hit for me too. I feel so loved!
I'll hit you if you feel otherwise!
Hi
I agree, you can't beat cooking for loved ones, or dining out with them and enjoying tasty, wholesome food!
Yes, it is LOVE indeed...just like my Mom's meals. Mom's the one in charge of cooking and buying grocery 'coz she sells food in the market. She used to be confused on what to cook, so most of the time I'd write on the whiteboard what I wanted to eat and she'd prepare it for me. She's a WONDERFUL cook. My friends envy me for her cooking ability and 'coz whenever I want something, I can always tell her and she'd provide it for me the next day. *grin*
That's really the symbol of her love, among SO MANY other things that she does.
Glad to hear about your Dad and your brothers' loving acts. I'm afraid my Dad won't know what to buy if he has to go to the market himself ha ha ha ha ha...
GREAT dish, Blur! Now I'm HUNGRY HE HE HE HE HE HE...
What a beautiful story of love Ting. You've made my day!
I see shrimp heads. Yum! Dave doesn't get it but I think the head is the tastiest part of the shrimp!

Seagrape - I used to threw them away until SK requested that I include them in the dish. I think they add alot of flavour to the dish.
I bet Dave thinks fish head curry is gross too? :-)
