It's quite uncharacteristic of me to be so quiet on my blog. Our broadband connection at home is so sucky, we can hardly stay online for 5 minutes without getting disconnected. When I was at the gym this evening, I found out that we can get free internet access, so the boys and I are now back here after dinner, sitting in the lounge, tapping away on our laptop.
I have to admit that our life revolves round this little machine, and the World Wide Web of course. We're not the only ones sucked into this web, there are a couple of adults and teens with their laptop too. I feel so normal here.
This weekend went by too quickly. After viewing alot of furniture over the past few weeks, YK is still adamant about buying from the first stores we visited. He's a loyal guy. So we finally bought the dining set, coffee table and beds yesterday. The lady manager seemed visibly touched that we really came back that she gave us a sweet deal.
Today, I bought an item that made YK's jaw drop. It's an egg-shaped woven sofa made of rattan and banana leaves. I saw an advertisement in the papers and made my way to an obscure location with YK in tow. It was love at first sight (for me at least) and before YK could protest, I quickly handed cash over to the manager to buy the piece of beautifully woven chair. It may not be the sleekest piece of furniture around but it is so eco-friendly! Unfortunately I don't have any photos, but you'll see it soon.
I can imagine spending many lazy weekends reading on this comfy lazy chair. I promised YK it will be tucked away in one corner of my bedroom.

Banana leaf sofa? This I gotta see
Pictures! Pictures! We want pictures! LOL!
Yeah, it was unlike you to be quiet for quite a while. You're one person I can rely on to have a new post or two almost everyday ...
Hhmmm... now I hope the dryer can dry your banana leaf :)
Have you got the dryer yet? Last week I was too busy fighting with machines, so this week I'm going to ask you every day about it.
Btw, got some drives working now, so will start to search the waterfall pic :)
Hehe, now I have everyone wondering how a chair can be fashioned from banana leaves!!
Well, the banana leaves are twisted into thin strips and handwoven into rustic looking furniture or baskets. The end product looks quite similar to stuff made using wicker or rattan.
More info...
The central stem of the banana tree is surrounded by leaf sheaths or sections. Once the fruit has been harvested from the tree the stem can be made into rope. Banana Leaf, also called Deboo, is rolled and dried then plaited or twirled to create a sturdy rope in various thicknesses. The rope is then generally woven over a wooden furniture frame. Banana leaf furniture can be found in three natural earthy colors beige, coffee or a mixture of both. A sealer or stain may also be applied, not only adding color but also a degree of protection.
Wow, love the sound of the banana chair! I want to see pics!
can't wait to see the chair. now i miss my bamboo couch. sniff.
i am living with my mom now sharing a bed with maku. seeing your happy ending brings a big smile to my face :)
