Cookie was so happy to see me, he couldn't stop wagging his tail. Since he was about to go for his chemical bath, I hung around and chatted with the staff.
"Cookie refused to walk for the first two days but this morning, he was so happy when I brought him out!", the staff said, beaming with joy. "He's such a good dog."
According to the vet, Cookie needs his weekly chemical bath until the condition improves. That really set me thinking. If he returns to the farm, who's going to look after him? In no time, his skin may get infected again, and all this effort will be in vain.
Hence I am considering bringing Cookie back to our apartment to stay. It's already getting crowded in our little home with the fish and shrimp tanks and one small doggie. Do we have space and time for a bigger dog?
The kids love to have Cookie here with us and they think it would be cool to let Cookie sleep on my bed as well. I'm inclined to let him set up home in the spacious patio instead. I can't imagine having two dogs scurrying about indoors. I don't want to share my bed with 2 dogs!
I really don't know what to expect. Will I be able to manage walking two dogs at the same time? While it is great fun to have them together, looking after two dogs is no joke. My life is already hectic enough, with the added responsibility, I can only imagine myself getting busier.
Afterall, having a pet is like caring for a child. I guess I'll just have to try it out for now, at least until he is fully recovered.
My house is beginning to look like Animal farm. Rusty is Napoleon. I'm just the farm owner who hopes that the animals will never rise in revolt and oust me from power.

Ummm... will you catch mites if you sleep with Cookie?
Oh dear...that can be tough indeed...if it's only for a short while then maybe it's fine, but if it's for long-term...mmmm...dunno what to say...
CH - Are you 2 legged or 4 legged?
Little Boy - Don't worry. Cookie will never be allowed on my bed!
By the way, here's what I've found:
Can Humans Catch Mange Mites?
Yes they can but it is typically rare. Scabies is a human type of Sarcoptic Mange Mites known in dogs. Transmission to humans occurs the same way it does from animal to animal but certain mites prefer certain animals – i.e. the Sarcoptes scabiei var. canis prefer canines and will realize this once they have had a chance to burrow for a while. It is also believed that demodex mites are common residents of humans but at low numbers as most people don’t have an immune deficiency so low to allow an outbreak. There have been cases where people have developed cases of scabies only to see them go away immediately – even without treatment because of the mal-immune threshold they need is rare in humans.
Amel - The only way to find out is to wait until he arrives. Rusty turned out to be easier to care for than we had expected!
If i stay near you, i would love to help walking the 2 dogs! haha
Pobell - Oh really? That's so sweet of you!
Blur, u are very generous. I'll never let a ex-mangy (or otherwise) dog into my resting/relaxing/eating space. That's a comment on me, rather than u...
I can't turn my back on my own pet especially when it is unwell.
It will work out somehow :-)
LOL! You've got a little mini zoo in the making there ...
