Back on track

At the start of a new year, we set out with lots of new resolutions and enthusiasm to accomplish them. As we move through the weeks and months, we lose them one by one. Before we know it, we're back to our old ways.

I don't know about you but I have an in-built 'reset' button somewhere in my body. It alerts me when I start to stray from my goals. For me, it is relatively easy to go back on track. All I have to do is put on my running shoes.

When I start running, everything will begin to fall into place. I immediately feel more disciplined. Then I become energised. When the adrenalin courses through my body, I feel that I can accomplish anything!

With the renewed energy, I find myself more cheerful and motivated. I feel lighter emotionally and physically. My clothes fit better and I take greater care to dress up and look good. My confidence soars and my performance improves.

When I feel good, I smile more and spread the cheer around. Joy is contagious.

I started running again yesterday even though my legs were still sore. This gentle recovery run not only helped to repair my sore muscles, it did wonders to my spirit and soul. It also signalled the start of getting back on track which is important to me.

I went home feeling rejuvenated and just in time to join my family for a healthy dinner. Today I started the morning with toasted wheat wholemeal rolls instead of marie biscuits. Looks like I'm back on track.

That's nice! :)

Thankfully husband still hasn't found my Re-set button yet, or else he is going to Ctrl/Alt/Delete me whenever I start to nag :)

CH - Where's your reset button located?

Nick - I'm sure you can feel the benefits of running too.

MH - haha, don't ever tell your hubby or we'll never be able to find you again!

This is a fabulous post and wonderful expression of why you run and how it makes you feel! Sometimes it isn't always easy to get me "restarted", inertia takes over quickly. But once
I find my groove again - I am a new (and better person).

I would love to share this with other runners - would you mind if I shared your article on Runners' Lounge (www.runnerslounge.com) or you can post it yourself if you like. We have an inspirational section for "why I run" stories!

I agree, while it is tough to get started, once we do get off our feet, there's no stopping us!

I feel exactly the same way about running! Whenever I am down or stressed or sad or even happy, I go for a good jog.
