I came home early and decided to bring Rusty along with me to the market nearby. While walking through the housing estate, that sneaky little fella stopped, stood on his hind legs and slipped off his harness. I let out a loud squeal and ran after him.
The more I chased, the faster he ran, stopping occasionally to pee and look back at me with a twinkle in his eyes. When I almost caught up with him, he dashed across the small road. Luckily there were no cars. He didn't even look!
I was almost at my wit's end. Then he ran straight to the pet store. An old man (probably the owner) was sitting outside the shop, admiring the small yellow birds in their enclosures. Rusty went right up and put his front paws on the cage, sending hundreds of birds into a flying frenzy. The old man was too shocked to react.
I grabbed the opportunity to snatch Rusty away. The old guy looked really mad, I apologised profusely and quickly made ourselves scarce. The birds were squealing and fluttering around crazily when I left. I hope none of them perished in the frenzy.

Was the harness too loose? Looks like you'll both be persona non grata at the pet store now.
Yes, somehow over time, the harness became looser and he found a way to slip off it. I wouldn't want to go near the pet shop for now but SK likes to go and look at the fishes. He's their customer afterall.
