Magic wand

When I spoke to mum over the phone this morning, she sounded so weak and sad. She has been so unwell lately. It's hard for anyone to understand her illness especially when it is intangible like in her case. She suffers from dizziness and headaches all day. The nerves can't stop twitching in her head, it's like a circus in there. She can't sleep and leg cramps keep her awake all night. When she manages to doze off, she wakes up in a terrifying fright.

She thinks she is dying and it makes me sad. Doctors can't do much to alleviate her pain. Just bear with the side effects, they say.

Perhaps the stream of vistors during the Chinese New Year is taking a toll on her well-being. Even talking is a strain, it drains all the energy out of her. An out of ordinary day will leave her feeling out of sorts all week. She needs time and many quiet days to recover.

Being ill is indeed a sad thing. While others can empathise, the sick is the one who continues to suffer. Despite feeling unwell, mum tries to stay cheerful and positive so that she doesn't spoil the mood of others.

I had hoped and hoped that she will get better but hearing her sound so disheartened makes me wish I have a magic wand.

Sorry if I am feeling a little melancholic. While I was out walking Rusty an hour ago, I came across a tragic scene. Someone had just leapt from a high rise building. The lifeless body, maybe a teenager or a small woman, was sprawled on the grass. It is indeed sad to witness something like that. Why did the life have to end that way?

I wish I have a magic wand to make the world a better place for all.

Oh dear.. :( I'm really sorry about your mum. It is very troubling when our parents grow old and get sick.. But it is good that she gets to share her feelings and "off-load".. to a good daughter like you! :)

Yup! Ting... you really are a great daughter. Watching a loved one suffer pain isn't pleasant.

WHAT??? You witnessed that? Oh dear goodness...sorry to hear about your Mom. I can relate to it in a way 'coz of my FIL's condition. Well, at least you live close to your parents. If there's something wrong with my parents, the fastest I can go to Indo is a day after I get the news (or even more if I can't get the plane ticket quickly).

Oh no that's terrible that someone must have felt so desperate that they thought that was the only way out. Terrible that you had to see that too.
I'm also sorry to hear about your mum. I wish I too had a magic wand to make her aches and pains vanish. It must be hard for you to see and hear her like that.
I wish your mum and you better days ahead.

Hi Blur: sorry abt your experience during yr walk. Try to 4get abt it. As for yr mum, perhaps u cld convince her to let rip -- occasionally. My mum does that sometimes and I encourage her to talk "bad" abt all the pple/things tt make her unhappy. I join in her tirades until she does a 360-degree and says this or that isn't as bad as we it out to be etc.. then she feels much better...

OKC - It's hard to see our once strong and healthy parents growing old.

Petunia - I just want to see my parents well and happy.

Amel - Yah, quite shocking to see something like that.

I know... being so far away from your parents is tough on you.

Auntie Lucia - I do notice that my mum feels alot more cheerful when I visit on a weekday when it is quiet and we have time to talk. I can't wait to get my car and then quickly swing by to visit her. That place is quite impossible to get to without a car really.
