Chinese New Year

As usual, the reunion dinner table was laden with so much food. In the midst of preparation and feasting, I forgot to take photos. We had curry chicken, bamboo shoot cooked with pork, smoked meat, roasted meat, braised sea cucumber cum abalone, steamboat, stirfried vegetable, steamed fish and prawn dishes. Lots of leftovers...

It's the first day of the Chinese New Year. After making his ginkgo nut sweet soup, Dad brought mum to the temple in the morning. My brothers came visiting soon after. While waiting for my parents to return, we took lots of photos of the kids.

A selection of New Year cookies.

Greeting grandparents with mandarin oranges.

During the photo shoot, Rusty strolled over and sat next to the kids. He is part of the family afterall!

Two little China dolls.

Sounds like there was plenty of gorgeous food!

Love the pictures, especially the one of everyone sitting on the step, with Rusty too!

more food? are you trying to kill me???? :))
what i want to know is how you stay so thin???
you eat like a queen! i love the variety of different foods, and the pics are always enough to make me crazy-- or unfortunately-- ill at times... :)) but it's always fun regardless. and more fun to know how much you enjoy all these things.

i must say tho-- when i would go snorkling in the Indian Ocean.. while stationed over there---i did see-- and touch "sea cucumbers"
and i for one-- just could not force myself to even TASTE it. but that's me i reckon. what does it taste like anyhow? chicken.. or squid? looks rubbery in there.
anyhow--
hope you are having a good time.
later--

Soul - You would eat alot if you live here too. There's always food everywhere and the food sold at the stores are so plentiful and cheap.

I think only the Chinese eat sea cucumbers. They're sold as a hard, dry lump and we have to boil for days to soften it. The hard piece will expand to many times its size and we will cut it into smaller chunks and braise for hours. They do look like leather but after cooking, it becomes soft and chewy. They're quite tasteless on its own but when cooked with chicken stock and other meat, they will take in the flavours and taste quite yummy. We don't eat it alot though cos it's hardwork preparing it and so expensive! Good news is, it is completely cholesterol free.

Yes, Rusty gets all the attention when visitors come. In fact, so times he runs to our bedroom to hide from all the pampering!

Well, MH, I'm gonna make 8-treasure duck when you come!

Having kids in the family during Chinese New Year really adds to the fun and joy!! My two little nephews were sooooo happy yesterday.

For me, I am staying home today. Project Packing has begun for me and my in-laws to get ready to move in to our respective new apartments.

Haha.. for me, I look forward to this more than Chinese New Year!!

Hey Water, yah. If you ask me, I have enough of this CNY celebration thing.

I would be as excited as you are if I am moving into a new house!! Good for you. Everything new in the new year. How cool is that!
