Friday night

Instead of indulging in a nice hot meal on a drizzly Friday night, we went for a talk by Amy Lam, the first Singaporean Appalachian Trial thru-hiker. As she talked about the challenges of covering the trail, I was so inspired and filled with admiration for this little gutsy lady.

We bought a copy of her book, which is a diary written throughout her 127-day journey that's filled with useful notes and words of wisdom. It will certainly come in useful one day, when we're planning for our own hike along the Appalachian Trial.

With Amy.

After the talk, we walked to Chinatown to check out the goodies on sale and to soak in the atmosphere. We ended up walking slowly along the crowded, rain-soaked alley, avoiding black puddles of water on the floor and umbrellas in the air.

Chinese New Year decorations everywhere you turn!

What's Turkish ice cream doing here?

Wanna try some?

Melon seed- a popular snack during the festival.

Stall vendors resort to wearing wacky wigs to attract attention.

Oh, MH, I knew it would make you homesick. But really, we all feel that there is a lack of atmosphere this year. I think in 20 years' time, there may not be any more CNY celebrations.

Ha ha Fish, we're quite used to seeing such decorations, so we don't really go 'Wow' but I think you would buy everything in the store if you're here!

there seems to be so much to DO there.
i live in a huge city-- and there seems there is nothing to do here--ever.
well unless ya want to spend three hours dead stopped in traffic.
which takes the fun out of the whole thing.
i think i want to run away from home.
just don't know where to go-- or what to do when i got there.
talk about bein in a pickle eh?

happy weekend...
