Valentine's Day Eve

As you all know, it's the eve of Valentine's day and we're not about to let the merchants and restaurants milk our hard-earned money by succumbing to their ridiculously priced romantic treats.

I'm glad that till now, nobody has taken the Four Seasons Hotel's over-the-top Valentine's Day package costing a cool $39,000 (USD28k) which encompasses being picked up in a limo, put on a helicopter for a swoop over the city and served a 6-course gourmet dinner. Well, who knows? Someone may be crazy or rich enough to surprise his girlfriend.

All I can say is, I still cringe at the sight of couples savouring their candle-light dinner in a packed restaurant, whispering sweet nothings to each other within earshot of the next couple barely inches away. And the waiters scurrying about...that doesn't seem very romantic, does it?

CH has suggested a special treat at a fancy French restaurant this Friday (the day after V-Day) but I prefer somewhere more casual. Perhaps we both still miss the fun-filled days in France last year. Well, we have decided to go to a Mexican restaurant instead, where we still can indulge in reminiscence and good food.

For the rest of you out there, enjoy your Valentine's Day!

A quiet stroll along Seine River with CH is definitely more romantic than sitting in a crowded restaurant.

An afternoon at the park...

Or exploring new places...

Even a simple picnic after a long day of cycling...

...can be very romantic.

i agree---
but then again.. i've been married for a very long time-- and i think V-day is geared more for the dating crowd. so there's no need to impress around here. so like you- it's the simple stuff that makes it more memorable. :))
and we too make fun of the romantic fools out there acting like idiots :))

Yups I agree! We would be avoiding eating out at all costs tomorrow! If really have to, you would probably find us eating at one of the foodcourts.

Say that I am outdated, Valentines is just such a commercialised affair. You mean you love your loved ones only on Valentines? And is it not crazy to specially buy flowers to send on this day that could cost more than double the price on usual days?

Hi Soul and Water, I supposed we need to be at a very comfortable level with our partners before we can genuinely not be affected by the mush around us.

To be honest,in the past, I would still feel a tinge of sadness if CH didn't plan anything on V-day. But now we have come to a stage where we can let the day pass us without any fuss. I guess that means the honeymoon period is over :-)

I have to agree with you on the merchants and restaurants milk our hard-earned money by succumbing to their ridiculously priced romantic treats part. I for one think Vday is just way to commercialized.

ha ha, we're a bunch of unromantic people who have gone past the dating stage :-)
Ah, we birds of a feather flock together!
We're the ones the merchants steer clear of!

Indeed, hubs just called me if we want to have dinner tonight or friday night. Since he knows I would definitely be going for my usual Thursday workout after work tomorrow. Hee Hee .. even if it's valentines. I have chosen Friday. But well, we would definitely not be specially going to any expensive restaurant to show the world our love. True love is there, quietly ... but definitely.

Ya? :-)

So beautiful, and so true! An expression of love should never be commercial.
I used to love just renting a movie and eating a special late night dinner with candles at home with Chen.
I loved your photos too, making a very romantic statement, each one worth more than a thousand words!

wha?!? it's valentine's day already?!? no plans here either. V-day to us is my mom's birthday and baking goodies for my daughter's teachers and friends. maybe i'll try to be romantic this year and surprise dave...instead of telling (err...nagging) him not to buy me expensive flowers and chocolates and stuff =)
