Bath ritual

Watcha looking at?!!

6pm. Rusty shows up at the front door all muddy and wet. Drat! I hate to bathe him at this hour but he’s not going into the house all caked in mud.

He knows it’s time for that dreaded bath and tries to escape. I grab him before he can slink away. I shut the bathroom door quickly as he tries to make a run for it. I shampoo him all over but his little beady eyes spy a toad in the corner. Yes, the baby toads that he brings into the house have grown into little adults now.

He struggles to move forward. I grab him between my legs and rinse the soapsuds off his little furry body. The sight of a little toad jumping across the bathroom is way too tempting. As I towel him dry, he lunges forward, pouncing on the helpless creature.

I shriek and run to the door in horror. Grabbing the toad in his mouth, Rusty rushes out of the bathroom and heads towards the kitchen. He stops and places the toad on the rug. My little niece scurries around, shrieking in delight. “Whoo-eee, whoo-ee, Rusty! Rusty!” Her nanny grabs her and runs across the kitchen in disgust as the toad hops towards them.

Rusty picks up the toad and scrambles across the hall. I hear more shrieking from the nanny and niece. Amid the excitement, Rusty rushes into YK’s bedroom, drops the toad on the floor and jumps onto my bed. He rolls on my bed to dry his fur. Meanwhile, the toad tries to limp away.

I hear YK yelling “Mum! Rusty’s rolling on your bed! There’s a toad in my room!” As I run towards the room, Rusty jumps off the bed, grabs the toad and ducks under the table, hiding in the warm corner behind the computer CPU.

YK is now screaming, “EEk! There’s a slimy toad all covered in saliva under my table!”

I enter the room with a broom and dustpan. I try to sweep the hoppy toad into the dustpan. Rusty tries to snatch it away. We struggle for a bit and finally the toad is in the pan, and back in the yard. Yay!

That's a day in the life of Blur Ting and Rusty.

So, I'm sitting here tonight, feeling a little ...blue. I figure I'll check out some of my favorite blogs to distract myself, and whose perky, furry mug do I spy? Why its that lil' punkin, Rusty, wouldn't cha know! I read your post, Blur, and it really did brighten my night. Thank you. Now, go give that little cutie pie a treat for me, if you please. :)

Hi Holly. So glad that little rascal can bring you some joy. Will give him a treat but NOT gonna kiss him. (unless he promises to stop biting toads!)

Good idea! You can make it into a book and read it to your kids! David can do the illustrations. I'm sure he's good at drawing toads. :-)

Blur, That's it!! You must write children's books. You would be wonderful at it. Please really think about it. I'm completely serious.

Oh Holly! You really think so? I'll give it a try. Thanks so much for your encouragement!
