Celebrate Singapore

It’s one of those mornings, I am sitting here, staring blankly at the computer screen, wondering what I should blog about. How about our National Day Parade (NDP) on 9 August?

Would anyone be interested to hear about our NDP that’ll be held on what is possibly the world’s largest floating performance stage, with Singapore skyline as a giant backdrop? Well, in case you are, here goes…
The NDP is taken very seriously here. The working committee starts planning a year in advance. This year's theme, Celebrate Singapore: City of Possibilities, reflects optimism and pride as Singaporeans come together to celebrate our nation’s independence.

The NDP 2007 logo takes its inspiration from the exciting new venue at Marina Bay, by the mouth of the Singapore River, an area rich in history. It brings to mind images of glittering harbour lights, tropical sea breezes and romance under the stars.

The vibrant fireworks of five stars represents our nation’s ideals of democracy, peace, progress, justice and equality. The graceful waves encircling the city skyline of Singapore define our identity as a people, in this place we are proud to call home.

The color orange captures our passion and determination to build a dynamic city of opportunities while purple embodies dignity and hope. Blue signifies our confidence in overcoming challenges and adversities and green reflects the grace and harmony of our garden city.

Nearly 470,000 people applied for tickets to the parade which has a seating capacity of only 27,000! Spectators will be treated to a heart-stopping display of fast paced action manoeuvres before their very eyes... Chinook helicopter hovering just above the waters, marine crafts performing precise high speed manoeuvres as well as Apache attack helicopters performing acrobatic aerial displays that will keep spectators at the edge of their seats.

The show PossibiCity, comprising five segments, Sea, Earth, Sky, People and Fire, promises to be truly refreshing, visually stunning and emotionally engaging. Spectators will be wowed by a fireworks finale, synchronised to music and integrated with water effects, flames, lasers and lights and finally Kit Chan will sing the contemplative ballad ‘There’s No Place I’d Rather Be’.

Do I sound like I'm shamelessly promoting Singapore? What can I say? I'm proud to be Singaporean!
That's me, with the famous Singapore skyline before me, waiting for the fireworks to start in last year's NDP.

I've never been to Singapore but I have at least one Blogger pal who lives there who has invited me to visit if I'm ever there. It's such a beautiful city from photos. And you look so happy being there! Hugs.

Hi Dan, I was at your blog earlier and found the link, something like So Shiok! I knew right away she's from Singapore and true enough, she lives in Little Guilin, an area that I run around in every Sunday.

It looks beautiful there, Blur. By the way, you should write for the tourism board. You so beautifully illustrate - through your descriptions - all that Singapore has to offer!

Thanks guys! Yes, it's party time! The kids have to wear red t-shirt (our national colour) to school today. Even the teachers. They're all celebrating today. It feels kinda festive!

Actually I miss NDP, and in the past after watching the NDP, I felt really proud what Singapore has achieved.
