So High!

Last weekend, we went to Highlander Bar at Clarke Quay with some friends. It’s the guys’ favourite hangout these days. I wonder if they’re drawn to the rustic ambience or their range of over 200 Scottish whiskies... though I suspect it's the staff in tartan kilts that attracts them! I must agree the waitresses look really cute in the teeny weeny Scottish kilts.

It’s all good, kitschy fun. Think cosy wooden furnishings, traditional antler chandeliers and even a chance to shimmy to rousing live Scottish music.

In case you’re hungry, it’s the only restaurant here that serves authentic Scottish cuisine like haggis which is sheeps' innards (heart, lung and liver) minced with onions, oatmeal and spices encased in sheeps' intestines and boiled, and served with "neeps and tatties" (turnips and potatoes). The Scotch Eggs, Venison Sausages, Highlander Game Pie, Grilled Royal Deeside Salmon and White Mealie Pudding (not easily found outside Scotland) are some of the favourites.

Plus, it’s a great place for people-watching. Clarke Quay is currently the hippest, coolest place in Singapore's fickle clubbing and dining scene. With its good mix of restaurants, bars and entertainment spots all set in a charming heritage site, lots of beautiful people were seen arriving in style, ready to party the night away in watering holes like Fashion Bar and Ministry of Sound.

Clarke Quay was definitely in a party mood last weekend! The Uniquely Singapore Weekend Campaign drew a huge crowd, with live bands, dancers, acrobats and street performers wowing the crowd with their acts. The event ended on a high note with pyrotechnic light and sound display by the riverside. I managed to catch some of the fireworks with my phone camera!

Epi is such a hoot. ...and pretty much confirms your suspicions about the kilts vs. the authentic Scottish food and ambiance. :)

Yes, it's a nice place that's full of buzz. Wouldn't it be nice if all our us can sit down together for a drink by the riverside. JY can watch fireworks, Holly can enjoy the lovely food while Epi can look at the girls in micro -minis!
