The flying hen

*Update* Hot off the press - what we ate for lunch!

Savoury chopped mushroom wrapped in beancurd skin.

Meat and chive wantons.

This is my all time favourite. Sweet, tender shredded radish in a light flaky skin that crumbles with every bite.

How time flies. When Mother Hen announced she was visiting Singapore, we had so many grand plans. We had wanted to eat, shop, cook, do gardening... I had visions of us whiling our afternoons away, sipping English tea and eating buttery scones. Alas, she has been back for a month and we've only met 3 times! Soon, she'll be on her flight out of our little island and I'll be pining for her like a lovelorn Romeo again.

She suggested lunch at Crystal Jade today. The chicken soup is to-die-for, she says. But isn't it intriguing how a Mother Hen swoons over her chicken soup? Now, I would grab any opportunity to see her before she flies off again.

She's coming over for dinner on Sunday and I have already planned my menu and stocked up the fridge with Tiger Beer (her hubby's fav). We'll be cooking up a storm - traditional dishes of course - chicken curry (yup, more chicken), kiam chye duck soup (duck with preserved vegetables), ngoh hiang (minced meat rolls) and peanut rice ball soup (this is an encore since she liked it so much).

Talking about the lack of time, we're always complaining about how we're too busy to exercise and all that. We ought to be ashamed of ourselves. Yesterday I read about Dr Ang, a leading psychiatrist in Singapore who wakes up at 4am everyday to go for an hour's run, have a light breakfast, then hit the gym till 7am. Then he goes to work. Another lady, Dr Sylvia Ramirez hits the gym or runs daily to invigorate herself after a stressful day at work.

I also read that Condelizza Rice goes to the gym at 4.30am for her daily exercise. Now if these busy people can find time to workout, there is no excuse why we can't.

If there is a will, there is a way. I'm so determined to go for that chicken soup lunch, and then hit the gym!

Oh I really like the food at Crystal Jade, especially when I have it with a good friend :)

Well I get a lot more exercise in Singapore actually, from walking :)

Husband was so into walking on the first few days, but now, he's so lazy to walk, and has to rely on cab!!! :()

Hi Jan, I had a great time with her. We were disappointed the Great World City branch doesn't serve that chicken soup but the other stuff that we ordered were very good too.

Heh, she insisted on paying for lunch. So she's a better host :-)

JY -Precisely! We can find time to eat, shop and sleep. Talking about sleep, I feel so sleepy now. Must be the lack of exercise!

MH -I really enjoyed the lunch too. Such a nice time we had :-)

Oh, I can't blame your hubby. It's too hot to walk here. Only crazy people like you and me like walking in this hot weather.

Well as Noel Coward used to sing: "Mad dogs and Englishman go out in the midday sun."

Hubby should carry on the tradition!

Nice pictures! Wow you're fast. Inside my camera, there are some pictures which have been there for a long long time, and I haven't downloaded any! :)

Mmmmm those photos are making me hungry. I'm curious to know what time the 4am-rising Dr Ang goes to bed ;-) If I cut short the few hours of sleep I manage at the moment in order to exercise I'd be a total basket case.

Hey .. I think you are equally enthusiastic in hitting the gym. I do agree on the importance of setting aside time for exercising. I find it truly admirable though to be able to wake up early to exercise before work. For me, exercising is better and more relaxing after work for me to de-stress and relax for the night. :-)
