Not just another day

Today, I was awakened by the sound of rain at 4am. I tried so hard to get back to sleep, tossing and turning while Rusty paced about anxiously as lightning streaked across the sky. Finally I was lulled back to sleep by the sound of rain, then the alarm clock rang.

Today, we reminisced about the good old days while driving in the rain. YK asked "Don't you wish you could magically turn Rusty into a cute little puppy again?" He likes asking flippant questions like that. Yesterday, he asked his biology teacher, "Which is more annoying, when we fall asleep or if we talk during lessons?" And he wonders why the teacher rolled his eyes.

Today, I realised that I treat my kids like friends. We laugh and chat about everything under the sun. Some of their friends do not even talk to their parents.

Today, it was pouring when I dropped SK off in school. "How are you going to have your sports day at the stadium in this kind of weather?" I turned and asked YK. He shrugged off my concerns and listened to his favourite songs. Magically, we arrived at the stadium to find the sky brightening up.

Today, I will pick the kids at 12.30pm and head straight home. YK's friend is celebrating his 16th birthday at Sentosa tonight. Ten noisy boys will cram into a suite in Rasa Sentosa. Too bad, YK's birthday falls on the first day of the mid-year exams next week. No one would be in a celebratory mood.

Today is my favourite day of the week. We're meeting Mother Hen and her hubby for dinner and drinks. We'll eat delicate dumplings and drink chicken soup. Then we'll get high on Singapore Sling and Tiger Beer. They will fly across the world tomorrow, back to their cosy home in Oregon. I don't know when I'll see them again. Maybe next year, or the year after...

Today is not just another day.

Darn you are lucky. My boys, especially the younger one is so afraid to be seen anywhere with me and wifey when he's in school or with his friends! Gives us the feeling that we look like monsters or something.

Have fun and enjoy the Spore Slings and Tiger Beers :D

It's good to be able to relate to your children like you are their good friend than a motherly figure. I am sure such would aid in good communications and understanding which is beneficial for youself and for them as well.

So Mother Hen is finally heading back to her old nest? Lucky gal! She's been in Asia for like a month or so huh? Meeting old friends delight me as well. It was indeed not just another day :-)

Great Weekend, Blur.
