Life at home

I woke up this morning to find a note on my table. The kids frequently leave notes on my desk and I heard YK scribbling something while I was sleeping last night. It says "Can you cook porridge (the watery kind), omelette with spring onions and some vegetables for breakfast?"

I walked into the kitchen, put some rice in the cooker and then got carried away with the cooking. I fried up some eggs, green vegetables, cabbage and fish cakes. Then I realised I was running out of time. I had only 25 minutes (instead of the normal 55 minutes) to mop the kitchen floor, wash the cooking pan, shower, make up, change, wake SK up, feed Rusty and walk him.

Somehow I managed to accomplish all that within less than 30 minutes. SK and Rusty had a proper breakfast and we arrived in school on time as usual.

I am generally a fast worker, sometimes too fast for my own good. Last night, I slipped and fell in the bathroom because I was trying to do too many things at the same time. While rinsing the clothes in the bathtub, I decided to wash the floor using soapy water. It's no wonder I slipped and earned myself 2 angry bruises on my pelvis and thigh.

Still I haven't learned my lesson. I was scurrying about this morning and was amazed that applying make up and dressing up that usually takes 10 minutes can be reduced to 30 seconds if you're in a hurry! Even the walk with Rusty was a hurried one. He gave up fighting with me over where he wanted to go and followed me home without much resistance.

On a separate note, I think my laptop's days are numbered. While I was in the bathroom yesterday, I heard a crash. I ran out to find my lappy on the floor and a shocked YK sitting nearby. He was moving about on my chair when the laptop's wire got caught and landed in a spectacular crash. Luckily only the battery sustained damage. The lappy is still working but it is acting a little weird today. This workhorse is already 6 years old but I love it to death. I just hope it won't die on me anytime soon.

Wow! I'd never be able to multi task as effectively! Now, why not step back, take a breather and enjoy a cuppa?

EE - Cannot lah, especially this morning or else Sk will be late for school and Rusty will pee, poop and throw up all over the house!

I would go crazy if I have to do the list of things you do everyday.

By the way, it's probably time for your notebook to go. Just last week, my IT department replaced my notebook (remember? we have the same one). I am now using the newer version of the Thinkpad now under Lenovo. The model is T400. Quite good. You might wish to consider.

Have a Good Week Ahead!

Water - You're right but I paid almost $4k for this one, so I must milk it for its worth! Better back up my files first before anything happens.

It's very reliable, so I will buy the same one as yours. Thanks for your suggestion.

You are an exceptionally good multi-tasker. To do so many things in say 30 mins? Well done *applause*

Over my side, we don't have the habit of taking porridge for breakfast. My 2 boys don't really like porridge leh. They prefer noodle to rice for their meals :)

Wow you're good. I can never do that much within such a short time.

Janice - Funny also, he suddenly had craving for porridge. I had never cooked that at home. YK just smsed me to say very yummy. That makes all the effort worthwhile.

When my kids were younger, they also disliked rice and porridge but somehow when they become older, they want to have that for dinner.

MH - But you don't have to. I would rather not be so busy too but with 2 kids and a dog, life is madness.

I know the feeling. I'm always rushing around at home doing loads of stuff at one go and at the same time finding loads of ways to injure myself too ... LOL!

Hope the bruises go away fast :D

Nick - I know! I often read on your blog how you guys tackle the household chores, go shopping, cook, exercise and all. Sama sama. All you need now is a pet to make your life complete :-)

Do not get Windows Vista if you get a new lappie... either ask for XP or wait for the new OS.

CH - Thanks. I will remember that.

You do pack a lot into your days!
I can have fast, busy days but equally I can have slow, lazy days.

I don't want to hear about any more falls though. Hope you're okay.

Yep, maybe it's time to back up your files and search for a new lappy?

K@ye - But the laptop is still working fine after 6 years :-)
