Take me shopping

I don't know about you but when I'm home after a day at the office, it's difficult to make me leave the house again. I used to think it had everything to do with here we lived (remember I used to live in the remote farm), but now that we're living closer to the city, it remains difficult to pry me away from my cosy home.

You can ask the kids. I always turn down their request to drive out for dinner, catch a movie or buy ice cream, unless it is absolutely necessary. Like the other night when I had to drive to the library to drop off my books or risk paying a fine. The journey there and back took almost an hour of my precious evening time. As a result, I was still doing housework in my working clothes at 10.30pm that night.

I'm seldom enthusiastic to go out for drinks or supper with friends but I'm even more reluctant to go to anywhere crowded during the weekend. I have no qualms about driving to the fish farms in the countryside but why would I want to spend my holiday searching for a parking lot, dodging crowds or lining up outside a restaurant and getting all stressed out?

So you can guess by now the probability of bumping into me in a crowded mall in the city during the weekend is close to zero. I only do a bit of shopping during office hours when I'm in the city for meeting. This doesn't happen often because my meetings are usually in far flung locations.

Why am I talking about this? Well, this morning I realised I'm in dire need of new underpants. They have become so loose, they're at risk of dropping to the floor when I stroll down the street. I blame it on my washer. See, I throw all our clothes in the washer every night without separating the delicates. After months of rigorous washing, they're now stretched out of shape.

So you know I haven't been doing much shopping lately. Luckily I found some still new looking old clothes at my parent's house the other day. Ok, I used to be a bigger shopper before I had priorities. I used to shop during my travels too.

While the clothes have been given a new lease of life, the old underpants will have to go. I suppose it is now absolutely necessary to go shopping.
