Self esteem issues

When my friend EE asked me a question on Friday around mid-night, "What contributions do you think you've made to the world?", I was stumped.

She loves to ask questions like that especially when we're high on alcohol. While her mind goes into overdrive, mine usually goes to sleep. The first thought that came to my mind was "I like to think that I've inspired many people" but quickly stopped myself when I realised that I could come across as being too arrogant. How can I proclaim I am an inspiration to others?

So I just stared blankly and maybe I giggled, I cannot remember. She gave up after a while and focused her attention on her next victim, CH. Phew!

Water Learner threw a similar genre of question in her blog today. In her post, she encouraged us to participate in a self-estem exercise by writing down at least 5 things everyday on what we like about ourselves. We're supposed to do this for a week.

She ended her post with "What's yours? Care to share your good five things with me?"

My first reaction when I first saw the exercise was, "What a cinch!" But when I started searching for answers, I was stumped again. What do I like about myself? Is that so difficult to answer? I think I am a walking contradiction. I can be positive and energetic one day yet filled with negativity the next day. This sets me thinking that I probably have self esteem issues. I can't even produce 5 answers in one day, how am I going to have 35 answers in a week?

Yah, I really need to work on this.

Contributions you've made to the world? Well, you've created jobs for other people, right? You've also raised your kids well, the next future generation. You've also escorted your Mom to the doctors/dentist.

You inspire me because you're a single mother who managed to create a growing business from scratch. And now you're going to open another business with your friend. WOW!!!

You also love eating healthy and leading a healthy lifestyle. Plus you grow your own veggies ---> I'm very bad at this, so I admire you for that.

Don't be too hard on yourself (yeah, Waterlearner can say the same thing to me HI HI HI...). :-)))

I totally agree with Amels comments.

I think you have made loads of valid contributions. Now I'm wondering what I have done?!
