My first 21K

For 3 hours this morning, we were running and running. To prepare ourselves for the 3 half-marathons in December and January, we went for a training run this morning and did our first 21k (13 miles)!

Prior to this, the longest distance we have ever covered was 15km. Today's run along the East Coast Beach was a very pleasant one but I'll be lying if I told you it was a piece of cake.

We started off at 7.15am when it was still nice and cool. Soon the warm weather started to sap our energy, all I wanted to do was stop at every water station for a cold drink. The final stretch was so draining and my legs were aching, we were practically shuffling along. Needless to say, the happiest moment was when we saw the finish point looming ahead.

So happy to complete the run!
We signed up for the 21k run, hence we had a '2' stamped on our arms. The other runners did the 10k or 30k.

The start/finish point of our run.

21K? That is still a faraway dream for me. I am aiming for 10K first. How long have you been training for half marathons?

JY - I'm not good at all. My pace is slow compared to others but I'm just happy to complete the race. It gets addictive though. Before, I never thought I would do marathons!

Seagrape - When my kids were younger like yours, all I did was run after them.

Mike - You'll read about them for sure! We're running in Singapore, Thailand and Malaysia. Oh, and thanks for the compliment!

Amel - Thanks! You will be too, if you start training :-)

Soul - Oh, don't worry. You're starting to get better now, with your fishing and all. You'll get there...

Water Learner - I have always been doing the 10k. This is the first time we're doing 21k. No special training required. I run about 4.5km almost everyday. If you can do the 10k, chances are you can manage the 21k. Just go slow like I do. It more of endurance than stamina.

Really? You think I can? I run about three times a week. Sometimes 5km. At times 8km. I guess I would wait for the next marathon coming to sign up. Could you buzz me to sign up. Don't want to miss out again la ..

Congrats on your first 21K. It's a great feeling seeing the finish line so I know how you feel :)

I've only ever run the 21 K 5 times in my life ... getting too old to sustain a 21K pace ... so I'm sticking to 10K's.

Waterlearner - With that amount of running you do, you can definitely do the 21K. CH doesn't even run as much as you do. He only trains on weekends, yet he managed to complete 21k.

I will buzz you in the coming events. You can also participate in such training runs too. If we were to run on our own, we don't have the discipline to complete the distance. Plus they put markers along the way, so you can track how many km you've done.

Thanks Janice. I used my Nokia and they turned out pretty well :-)

Wow Nick, 5X! I'm impressed. My legs are aching today and I'm walking like an old lady.

I have respect for those who run marathons!

Like you, I'll probably retire from long runs after about 5, cos I don't want to end up with too many knee problems in my old age.

BT, you can say that again, I already have problems with my knees at times!

Yeah, what I would really like to do before I die would be to run an actual marathon but I don't think I ever will.
