The old and the young

I brought mum for her routine check-up at the hospital yesterday. After mum told the senior consultant about her dizzy spells and instability, he wanted her to undergo another MRI scan immediately to ensure that the brain tumour is not acting up again.

She did the scan today but the results will only be out next week. We hope that no further treatment is necessary.

Hospital visits are dreary. With the H1N1 going around, we had temperature checks upon entering the hospital doors and we emerged smelling like antiseptic. I can see that the hospital has put in lots of effort to bring cheer to the place, like incorporating greenery, pictures and art within the premises. It helps to a certain extent but nobody goes there unless they're sick or visiting the sick. The only happy place is the maternity ward.

For me, the best part is returning to my parent's house to find two little girls jumping with joy when I arrived. I don't see them very much these days but each time I do, they seem to have grown taller! And they're so happy and bright, it's such a joy to be with them even if it's for a few precious minutes.

Here's the younger one, waving "Bye Bye Koo Koo (aunt)!"

My happy nieces.

Two nieces, a dog (Cookie) and my shoe.
