A nice change

It's the kids' one week vacation but the poor guys have been holed up at home because of the incessant rain.

I remember 2 years ago, we even managed to steal away to Western Australia during their 1-week break for a whirlwind vacation. Not this time though. YK had to attend school from Mon to Wed, so there isn't much we can do.

Yesterday I decided to make a detour to Cold Storage in the pouring rain on the way home to bring back some comfort food for the kids. While the refrigerators at home are stocked with loads of stuff, they're mostly the kind to end up on the dinner table as stirfried dishes.

If I were to live on own own, meals would be more varied to suit their palette, like pasta for lunch and grilled fish or roasted chicken for dinner. Vegetables can be stir fried or eaten raw as a salad. Somedays we'll have Indian food and other days, Chinese or Japanese. You get the drift?

So I left the supermarket with fresh button and shitake mushroom, honey roasted ham, lean bacon, a big loaf of bread, a head of crispy romaine lettuce, cheese, spicy marinated mussels, fish fillet, angel's hair, pasta sauce and a bottle of red wine.

Guess what's for breakfast today? Yup, sandwich stacked high with ham, bacon, lettuce and tomato. A nice departure from the normal breakfast fare.

The smell of bacon fills the house today, and you know what, the rain has stopped. Looks like a sunny day!
