Just another day

Lately my posts have been revolving round the new environment. I can't help it if my life has evolved into an endless cycle of laundry, meals and walking Rusty.

Yesterday Rusty dashed after a cat and broke free from his leash. He chased the terrified cat into some thick bushes completely inaccessible by me. It was quite a comical sight but there I stood, rooted to the ground, helpless and horrified that I may never see him again. I kept calling out his name and was about to summon SK for help when Rusty suddenly appeared before me, all excited and out of breath. I grabbed him and brought him home.

This morning, he got excited over something in the bushes again and was trying to squeeze in through the tight crevice. This time, I scooped him up immediately and carried him away. My neighbours must be wondering why Rusty is always being carried around. Imagine if he's a big dog! Oh yah, he made friends with a friendly female labrador who looks like Cookie. I think they'll get along well because she's such a gentle and sweet dog.

Last night's dinner was rice with watercress soup, chicken chop, braised leather jacket fish and some stir fried vegetable dishes. Good thing CH was able to come for dinner. Before I started cooking, I had anticipated more hassle-free one-pot dishes but now I realise that it's not that difficult to whip up few dishes afterall. I think we still enjoy our staples like rice and stir-fries. Some habits are hard to break.

MH and JY - I would love to cook up a storm for you two!

In fact, I'm getting abit too adventurous. Yesterday I set up the charcoal stove again because I have rediscovered how wonderfully the food turns out when cooked over the charcoal stove.

I set up the stove in the backyard and as you know, the initial stage is rather smoky. One of these days, someone upstairs is going to complain. But I boiled water cress soup with pork bones and red dates and the pork became so soft and tender (you can never achieve that on a gas stove), the soup was really good.

Do it in the balcony, people will think you're having a barbecue. That's allowed, right?

Nothing beats the flavour of food cooked on a charcoal stove.

And I NEVER tire of hearing about your new environment :D

CH - Well, the only thing that bothers me is the smell may get onto people's clothes and leave a smoky smell. The folks above my balcony love to dry their laundry on their balcony. Besides, the guard house is just outside my balcony remember?

Nick - I'm sure you know the good old taste of charcoal cooked food!

Reading your blog makes me want to go home and cook something! I love cooking, just wish I had more opportunities to do it. My mum tends to take over in the kitchen. But I get to cook at one of my friends houses, and then I tend to take over!

Sounds like Rusty is having some adventures. I can just picture him wagging his tail, his little tongue panting and a mischievous glint in his eye!
