Ghoulish trees

YK's school is situated amidst a tranquil residential estate, and is accessible via a small road. After I drop him off every morning, I'll join the long line of cars, inching our way out to the main road. For the next 10 minutes or so, I find myself admiring the nice bungalows and staring at ghoulish looking trees lining the road. I don't know what species but these trees have the ugliest tree trunks. I see nothing but tormented faces on the lumpy black trunks. Take a look... I'm not exaggerating...and this is one of the better looking ones!

The human mind seeks meaningful info from semmingly random patterns. This is how people can see animals in the clouds, or the Virgin Mary in a piece of toast.

Does it mean that I'm frustrated waiting in the traffic jam, so I see monsters while if I'm looking at beautiful clouds on a lovely day, I see puppies?

Then how come I don't see puppies on my toast?

You should go look at those trees lah!

Blur, if I look at a texturized ceiling - not that I ever do, but if I did - I always see scary faces. I've no doubt I would see the same ghoulish expressions in those tree trunks.

oh Holly, really? I don't see scary faces in other things except for these trees.

Do you see nice things in clouds?

Oh, all the time. I see animals playing a lot when I look at the shapes of clouds.

Ooooohhhhhh...I see scary sleeping giants when I look at mountain ranges.

Trees do take on a rather eerie appearance at night. Maybe it's because we watch too much horror movies featuring creepy old trees.

Somehow we always see nice things in clouds. I just saw a kangaroo and poodle this morning up in the clouds! Not just me, my kids agreed too!

These trees remind me of a scene from Disney's Snow White...
