Breaking the rules

It's 11.30am on a Sunday morning and I have already finished a can of Tiger beer. Sunday is the day to break all the rules. I ate three tao sar paus (buns filled with red bean paste) for breakfast without having to worry if I'll get sleeply after that.

I've done my weekend marketing, household chores and walked Rusty. He urinated in the living room when I was out. I should have anticipated it because he drank lots of water before he went to bed last night.

I even found time to potter around in my garden. Yesterday I harvested my first radish. Isn't it cute as a button? I can understand how you wouldn't share my enthusiam but if you ever start growing vegetables, I'm sure you would feel the same way too.

I sowed two different kinds of lettuce and planted them in bags as an experiment.

Last night, I spoke to mum about my desire to grow vegetables in their farm. She always supports me wholeheartedly in my pursuits and must have brainstormed with dad last night because she called me early this morning to bring good news.

Dad has suggested clearing a section of their farm for my vegetable business. In fact, he even offered to build a new shed and get his workers to water our seedlings daily. He wouldn't hear of collecting any rent from us, suggesting that we repay him by giving vegetables instead. That's how wonderful my parents are. They're always quietly supporting me especially when they see me managing on my own.

Looks like it is turning out to be a wonderful Sunday. The sun is out, my vegetables are growing well and my parents are behind me. All very encouraging indeed.

My patio furniture is getting worn out after 6 months of sunshine and rain. I quite like them this way actually, rugged and weather beaten just like me!

Hey Fry, really leh. See what I found:
Farmers in eastern India have begun using soda drinks for pest control, reports a recent news story. They mix either Pepsi, Coca-Cola or Indian drinks with water and spray it on their rice fields.

Local agricultural experts say the use of sugared water is not new and its effect as a "pesticide" occurs because ants are attracted to the tasty plants and while there, munch on the larvae of insect pests. Farmers using the cola sprays for pest control on their rice crops say that the sticky-sweet sprays cost just 10% as much as pesticides on a per acre basis.
